What is Bill Koch League?

BKL is the largest membership group in cross-country skiing in the United States. Founded by Olympic Silver Medalist Bill Koch, the League’s mission is to introduce children to cross-country skiing in a supportive fun environment.

Open to all Blackwater Nordic member children grades 1-8.

 Held at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds
Meets Tuesday and Friday afternoons early Dec. through Feb.
Optional Sunday afternoon at Pat's Peak
Skiers are grouped by age and ability
Practice incorporates a mix of games, demonstration and ski exercises
Introduced to both Classic and Skate techniques

The program will operate under the leadership of Juliana and Rob Dapice and parent volunteers. When available, members of the Hopkinton High School Nordic Team will also act as instructors. Instruction is in small groups providing an excellent skier to instructor ratio.

Equipment is not provided by Blackwater but can purchased at a 20% discount (for BKL members) at S&W Sports in Concord. Blackwater occasionaly has some boots to rent and loans skate skis to be used during skate instruction.

Participation in BKL requires that the child has a Blackwater Nordic membership either as a youth member or part of a family membership. A BKL Release of Liability (available on the Forms Menu) must also be submitted either by mail or electronic signature during online registration. Blackwater and BKL registration are now combined on one form.

Watch for event announcements including a race and family fun day.
